Bonhomme Democratic Club

The Bonhomme Democratic Club met on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Kirkwood Community Center in room 201.  The room was large in square footage but much too small to accommodate the crowd that showed up.  This is by no means a criticism.  It is actually a positive indication.

Some 85-100 people crowded the meeting.  The theme was “get involved, get active.”

Lining the walls of the meeting room were seven activist organizations from The League of Women Voters (non-partisan) to The Sierra Club.

After brief comments from Dennis Roach, Chairman of the Club, and Deb Lavender, State Rep from District 90, attendees were invited to visit the tables, get acquainted with the organizations and get active.

I detected a certain vibrancy in the room filled with people of common purpose, with energy and  . . . hope.  Yes, HOPE.  One participant, in conversation with me, said:  “Believe me, I know where the bottom is.  This ain’t it, but this is as far down as we’ll go.  It’ll be up from here.”

Bonhomme Democratic Club is comprised of several townships and communities:  Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Des Pere, Sunset Hills.  Loosely translated, the word bonhomme means “good person.”

Bonhomme Township has scheduled two meetings in the coming months.  On February 21st it will host a mix and mingle event from 4 pm to 8 pm at PJ’s Public House and Tavern on Jefferson St. in Kirkwood, just off Lindberg.  (I personally recommend the Beef and Brick sandwich at PJ’s).  PJ’s has dedicated a certain percentage of the evenings proceeds to the Sierra Club on behalf of the Bonhomme Democratic Club.  The evening will be an excellent  opportunity to meet with other Democrats in the area and recharge your activist batteries.

The second meeting is scheduled for March 10, 7 pm, at Kirkwood Community Center and will be a standard business meeting.  Let’s HOPE they get a bigger room and that it TOO is TOO small.  See you there.
