“Protecting Yourself Against Consumer Fraud – Identity Theft and Other Harmful Scams”

Overview: Identity Theft and other types of consumer fraud is the fastest growing crime in the nation. More than 10 million people are victimized each year. It can cost an average of 80 hours and over $1,500 to clear up one simple case of Identity Theft, if caught early enough. Learn what steps you can take to lessen the chances of becoming a victim.

The speaker: Robert A. (Bob) Catlett, Jr. is a 32 year veteran of the Glendale Police Department in St. Louis County, Missouri. During these 29 years, he has held positions in Patrol, Investigation and Administration Divisions. He has served as the department’s Crime Prevention Specialist for the past 28 years having received numerous hours of specialized training from various disciplines throughout the country. His current rank and assignment is the Captain/Assistant Chief of Police of the Glendale Police Department. He is also the Director of Communications and Information Technology and the Emergency Management Director for the City of Glendale. Bob holds certifications in Fire and Explosives Investigations, Crime Prevention and Community Policing, and Police Generalist Instructor for the State of Missouri. He has served as an adjunct instructor for the St. Louis County & Municipal Police Academy and is an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. In May 1999, he was appointed as the first Executive Director of the Missouri Crime Prevention Association after serving as the association’s President. He has been a featured guest on the “Scott Mosby Home Improvement Show” aired on the St. Louis CBS Radio affiliate, KMOX, discussing home security issues. In 2006, he was the recipient of the American Legion Public Safety Award for his accomplishments in serving the community.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Theology from Cardinal Glennon College, Certificates of Specialization in Accounting, Business Administration and Non-Profit Management from Washington University in St. Louis, a graduate certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia and a Master of Divinity Degree from Vilatte Theological Seminary, where he also serves as Vice-Rector of Administration and as Professor of Liturgy, Sacramental Theology and Pastoral Management. He is also a graduate of the 268th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
