WCD Meeting Agenda – October 9, 2017

Presentation Topic:  “Why Medicare for All is the Best Solution and How to Communicate the ‘Whys'”

Speaker:  Dr. Ed Weisbart, Physicians for a National Health Program

Description: Dr. Weisbart will give an update on the important reasons for all Americans to support Medicare for All, and emphasize how to best communicate these reasons in a manner that finds the common ground across seemingly uncrossable party lines. He believes we all have far more in common than what divides us, and will help us all find that common ground.

About the speaker: Ed Weisbart, MD is Chair of the Missouri chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program, a 30 year-old non-profit research and education organization of more than 21,000 physicians, other health professionals, and those who seek to improve Medicare and provide it for all Americans. He is a family physician, volunteers in a variety of safety net clinics, and is an assistant professor at Washington University in St. Louis. He served as chief medical officer of Express Scripts from 2003 to 2010, where he learned the importance of focusing on the business case for key strategies.

Legislative Update: A regular feature of West County Democrats general meetings is the Legislative Update presented by Glenn Koenen.  Have you ever wondered what our elected officials do aside from raising money for their next campaign?  Glenn provides a compact view of legislative initiatives proposed by our lawmakers at the national and state level.  If it is important to understand exactly what our officials are doing or not doing to improve the well being, health and safety of our community, you can always find his summary on the Legislative Issues page or for his latest summary click here.

As always, we will be collecting for Circle of Concern.  For info click here.
