Clean Missouri Update – August 2017

One month ago, West County Democrats presented CLEAN Missouri at the evening FOCUS 2018 meeting. CLEAN Missouri is an initiative petition for an amendment designed to provide a state government that is open and accountable and not beholden to special interests. This amendment is a chance to take power away from special interests and to increase integrity, transparency and accountability in state government.

CLEAN Missouri is taking bold legislative reform measures directly to voters to reform state government to ethical and accountable standards. Please see CLEAN Missouri.org for specifics on this state wide effort. Petitioner training was provided to attendees by representatives from Jobs with Justice.

Our trained volunteers are now moving across our community educating voters and collecting signatures for the petition. The response from voters has been tremendous and is very encouraging. As we speak with voters, it is clear that there is a hunger for strong reform in our state government. But the job is far from over, and we always need more signature gatherers.

Specifically, we are present with petitions at community events, working shifts outside our public libraries, and meeting our friends in meetings and gatherings. Some of our volunteers are very creative in their request of organizations from which to solicit signatures. As an example, we are beginning to put out a call for folks to work shifts with us at the Kirkwood Festival in Septembers. What could be better? Gather signatures and then go enjoy the food, booths, and music in the park on a Fall day.

This effort is ongoing and momentum is building across the state. For further details on this effort, be sure to attend the August 14th meeting of West County Democrats, (see westcountydemocrats.org).  Be assured that if you would like to join us in the very important effort that we will help you receive the needed training, appropriate information and support. And at the end of this effort, we can all smile knowing that we will have helped achieve fairness in state elections – gone will be big money and gone will be gerrymandering in the redistricting of legislative seats.

If you would like more information, have questions, want to volunteer, etc. before the meeting on August 14th or will not be able to attend on the 14th, please feel free to contact us at: parkerjk@sbcglobal.net.
